Portland, Maine Backyard Wedding | Tristan + Abby
When I first met Tris and Abby for their engagement session at their brownstone in Brooklyn, NY, I knew they were special. Three months later on the morning of their wedding as I was walking up the driveway to their parents vacation house on a lake in rural Maine, I saw Abby’s aunt sitting on the front porch surrounded by flowers and branches she had foraged from the yard crafting all of the florals for the wedding, I knew their day was going to be special.
Abby and Tris’s day fully embodied their warm, welcoming personalities and truly was a reflection of them as a couple. They had their first look surrounded by friends and family and Tris’s reaction at seeing Abby for the first time had us all in tears. Their ceremony was on the shore of the lake behind their parents house, in a moss covered forest they had chosen because it looked more like a fairy glen than a lakeshore in rural Maine. The reception was in a tent in the front yard of the home, and the wooden centerpieces Abby and her dad handcrafted from wood they found on their property in the weeks leading up to the wedding blended seamlessly with the floral arrangements her aunt had foraged earlier. Since Tris works for Spotify in New York, he diligently created the perfect playlist for their background music at the reception, and Abby’s brother designed a card (and the rest of the printwork!) with the playlist information so the guests could find it later. The reception meal ended with Abby’s dad directing the all of the guests in singing a song about Abby and Tris’s relationship he had secretly written and held rehearsals for during the week before their wedding. If I could repeat this day over and over, I would without a doubt.
Since I’m terrible at blogging, its now been nearly a year since their wedding, and our schedules randomly aligned and I got to meet up with them in Portland, ME, when I was there last week. So fun getting to say hi and see them both again!
